Ala Moana Beach Park Information

Ala Moana Beach Park is a beautiful white-sand beach park located in the center of Honolulu, Hawaii. A popular spot among locals, this beach is a great place for birthday parties, BBQs, exercise classes, swimming, and stand-up paddling.


Permits are available for use of the beach park for the following activities:
  • Conducting any organized activity, e.g. sports tournaments, meetings, or workshops.
  • Reserving the use of recreation facilities
  • Having a group picnic of 50 or more persons.
  • Driving any vehicle on grassed areas.
  • Playing or amplify loud music or using loudspeakers.
  • Landing hang gliders, helicopters, or parachutes.

Fees: $15/hour, plus deposit

Steps to obtaining a Park Use Permit:
  1. Call 768-4611 to inquire about availability.
  2. Obtain an application form from any park or at the Parks Permit Office at 650 South King Street (808-768-3440).
  3. Submit your completed application at least 3 weeks prior to your activity. Applications and fee payment can be submitted at 650 South King Street, Honolulu, HI 96813. Office hours are from 8am-4pm, Monday – Friday.

Ala Moana is conveniently located 1.5 miles from Waikiki, a short 10 minute drive or 30 minute walk. If you are driving, there is ample parking at the beach park. If you are taking public transit, you can take the city bus, the Ala Moana Shopping Trolley, or an Uber ride.

Bus: One-way fare is $2.50. Busses run from 6am-10pm, 7 days a week. For more information, click here.

Ala Moana Shopping Trolley: The trolley provides convenient transportation between Ala Moana Shopping Center and 15 locations in Waikiki. It runs every 10-12 minutes, from 9:30am – 8pm.  Look for the Pink Line trolleys throughout Waikiki. Cost is $2.00 each way. Please pay fare with exact change on trolley. Uber: A ride from Waikiki will take about ten minutes and cost around $7-$10.
